Usually I don't really care for the books given to us in English. Unless they are noted classics, like Pride and Prejudice or Brave New world, the other books given to read for class were kinda..meh..not to my taste. Like Lovely Bones. A nice book but sorry, I don't think I'd ever read it again. Too...slow.
Waiting for Godot...this was a unusual surprise. A pleasant one too.
The whole play takes place as a tree for its setting. Epic right? XD There are two main main characters and 3 others. Estragon and vladimir (two friends waiting for a person called Godot.), Pozzo and Lucky ( Pozzo some random guy who orders the boy Lucky around.) and a Boy who comes in at the end of both acts.
This play is so damn hilarious. The lines are all nonsequitor conversations, which I have found I have a strange liking to. The two main characters Estragon and Vladimir have so many homoerotic conversations that their relationship is officially canon. They call each other "Gogo" and "Didi", embrace each other, have abusive conversations to pass time...it goes on. I can't even explain how gay they are with each other. Its adorable.
Oh, did I forget to mention there is man slaves, bicker battles, whipping, and philosophical nonsense?
While the book made me laugh so hard I nearly pissed myself 20 pages in, it also has some depth. It might be hard to discern, but the topic of life is the theme of the play. At the end I found some very pretty and deep lines. (some that just sounded meaningful but I'm too retarded to fully understand it after only one read of the book). And it does kind of leave you in awe at the end of the novel. Like...you're confused on how to feel because the book is funny but it talks about selling boys and death. :/
Well, I really recommend this play as a read for anyone. I actually want to go by it now after only reading it once. (I'm not advertising this book ...>.>;;...<.<;; ) (Also, reading it out loud is very very amusing)
So yeah, my little tidbit on an interesting book I was given in class to read. Hope someone goes to read it so I don't feel alone in my private little fandom.
